One of the first, and most popular, underground comix in history. After a first printing of ,000 books in , over 00,000 copies were sold by 0. Feds n Heads opens with one of Gilbert Shelton s funniest Wonder Wart-Hog stories, but it is better known for the comic book debut of The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, already popularized through extensive exposure in underground newspapers across the country. Hidden amongst the back pages is the classic Freak Brothers one-pager that launched the pothead motto: Grass will carry you through times of no money better than money will carry you through times of no grass This Gilbert Shelton masterpiece is an ideal example of underground comics perfection, circa .
HISTORICAL FOOTNOTES:
There are at least printings of this comic book, the last being printed by the Print Mint. The st printing was printed in an Austin, Texas garage and hand collated, folded and stapled by Gilbert Shelton. The first three printings have -cent cover prices. The st printing ,000 copies is pages, has a yellow-colored road with white buildings and a white sidewalk on the front cover, and the background on the front cover is broken into three distinct bands of color. The nd ,000 copies and rd , 00 copies printings are pages, have a brown-colored road with brown and orange buildings, the background has handmade stippling to blend the colors together, and they are believed to be indistinguishable from each other.
